How the Trash Bin Works (30-Day Auto-Deletion Policy)

Accidentally deleting an important file or folder can be stressful. That is why CloudFam includes a built-in Trash system designed to act as a safety net for your content. When you delete an item from your catalog, it isn't erased from our servers immediately.

Here is everything you need to know about how the Trash works and how to manage your deleted files.

1. The 30-Day Auto-Deletion Policy

The most important rule to remember regarding your deleted content is our Auto-Deletion Policy.

When you move a file to the Trash, it is temporarily stored there for exactly 30 days. During this window, the file remains recoverable. However, once the 30-day deadline passes, the system will permanently delete the item from our servers. Once a file is permanently deleted by the automated system, it cannot be recovered.

2. Accessing Your Trash

To view your deleted files, look at the left-hand navigation sidebar on your dashboard. Under the Management section, click on Trash.

If you haven't deleted anything recently, you will see a clean "Trash is Empty" screen. If you have deleted items, they will be listed here along with their file size and the exact date they were deleted, helping you track how close they are to the 30-day deadline.

3. Restoring Deleted Files

If you realize you made a mistake and need a file back, recovering it is simple.

  1. Navigate to the Trash page.

  2. Locate the file you wish to recover.

  3. Select the file and choose the Restore option.

  4. The file will immediately be moved out of the Trash and back into your active My Files catalog. Its original download link will also instantly reactivate, ensuring you don't lose any traffic.

4. Permanently Deleting Files Manually

While the system will automatically clean out your Trash after 30 days, you might not want to wait that long.

Because files in your Trash still take up room in your total storage allocation, you may need to clear them out manually to free up space for new uploads. To do this, simply go to the Trash page, select the files you no longer need, and choose to permanently delete them right then and there.
